Unlike cord blood banking which stores stem cells from the blood, cord tissue banking involves banking the stem cells found in the umbilical cord tissue itself. Cord tissue contains a completely different stem cell from those found in cord blood. These stem cells are called Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs), which are multipotent. This means that they can differentiate into many types of cells and tissues, including organ and muscle tissue, skin, bone, cartilage, and fat cells. There are over 50 clinical trials currently researching future treatments for diseases including Type 1 Diabetes, Alzheimer’s, and spinal cord injuries.
More Types of Stem Cells = Unlimited Opportunities
Banking your baby’s cord tissue in conjunction with cord blood means saving both types of stem cells (MSCs and HSCs) that are a genetic match to your baby and your family. MSCs treat an entirely different array of diseases than cord blood and they are only available at the time of birth.
In your Americord® 3-in-1 Collection Kit, you’ll receive state of the art technology to preserve your baby’s stem cells, including:

Cord tissue contains a unique type of stem cell that is not collected from cord blood, called mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). These stem cells have the potential to develop into many types of tissues throughout the body, including organ and muscle tissue, skin, bone, cartilage, and fat cells. While there are no treatments currently approved using MSCs, they are the fastest growing area of stem cell research and promise to provide many exciting new therapies in the future. There are more than 50 clinical trials underway researching potential uses and more opportunities being discovered each day. Banking cord tissue stem cells is an insurance policy for your baby’s future.
Some of the clinical trials involving MSCs for treatments and therapies include:
