Banking 101
Top 5 Reasons to Preserve Newborn Stem Cells
When you bank your baby’s stem cells, your baby is protected from day one. For the rest of their life, they will have access to health treatments and therapies that they otherwise would not have. Your baby's stem cells may be able to treat various forms of cancer, autism, cerebral palsy, diabetes, and more. Many promising new uses are constantly being discovered and researched.
1. Stem Cells from Birth
As we age, our stem cells age too. However, newborn stem cells are fresh and untouched by the effects of aging or environmental damage. Collecting them at birth guarantees the preservation of the youngest and healthiest stem cells available.
2. Ideal Family Match
Newborn stem cells can benefit not just your baby but also siblings and parents. In numerous cord blood treatments, using stem cells from a well-matched family member is often the preferred choice.
3. Effortless & Safe
The process of collecting cord blood and tissue is simple, safe, and non-invasive. Even if you plan to delay cord clamping, it won’t affect the collection of cord tissue, which remains straightforward and painless.
4. Comprehensive Cord Preservation
By preserving the cord tissue in whole segments, we ensure the protection of all cell types, such as MSCs, endothelial, and epithelial cells. This comprehensive approach allows us to fully harness future scientific advancements.
5. Most Parent Trusted in the United States
Americord stands as the highest-rated cord blood bank in the United States, receiving top marks across all major review platforms.

Over time, advances in technology and knowledge have led to an evolution of the stem cell storage bag. We go the extra step for our families by storing cord blood in a 5-bag multi-compartment storage bag. Depending on the patient's medical need, physicians can access the cells from a single collection as many as five times or all at once.
Cord tissue and placental tissue have different application uses. Cord tissue is used for surgical applications inside the body (ex, tendon repair, cartilage repair, or orthopedic surgery). Placenta tissue is used for topical applications (ex, wound healing, treating eye conditions, and ulcers).
Americord’s unique proprietary CryoMaxx™ processing method uses minimal manipulation of cord and placental tissue to retain their inherent multipotent cells, growth factors, and cytokines for therapeutic use.
Many delayed cord clamping supporters will say that you can not do both delayed cord clamping and cord blood banking. However, approximately 200 milliliters (mL) of blood is in the placenta and umbilical cord. A minimum of 40 mL is needed for cord blood storage. According to the World Health Organization, delayed cord clamping is recommended to last between one and three minutes. This transfers about 80-100 mL of blood into the baby. This leaves an ample amount of blood left to allow for cord blood collection.
