Sophia Aburmeileh, DMH, holds a Doctorate in Medical & Health Humanities. Her academic and professional focus centers on protecting patient autonomy and preserving patient integrity. In her doctoral dissertation, she examined the ethical implications of medical gaslighting—a pervasive issue that distorts clinical relationships and disproportionately affects marginalized populations. Her research highlights the critical role of patient advocacy and explores how targeted education can equip healthcare professionals to adopt highly ethical, patient-centered approaches that reduce dismissive care.
Prior to completing her doctorate, she finished her practicum at Atlantic Healthcare, where she participated in grand rounds and case studies on the bioethics of in-patient, outpatient, and palliative care. A steadfast advocate for patient rights, her foundational biomedical studies centered on maintaining autonomy for individuals impacted by neurodegenerative diseases, and she has dedicated significant time to advancing women’s reproductive rights and healthcare.
Her industry experience spans work as both a biological scientist and a research scientist in biotech, where she mastered federal-level quality assurance while collaborating with the New Jersey Department of Health. She also brings extensive process and product development experience, integrating quality and efficiency to partially automate tasks once performed solely by hand, thereby increasing production while maintaining the highest quality standards.
